Ever wondered what it would be like to go sailing? Now is your chance!

Come down to the Portland Yacht Club for our FREE Discover Sailing Day and experience sailing on beautiful Portland Harbour.

Whether you have never stepped aboard a yacht before or have always wanted to give sailing a try, Discover Sailing Day is the perfect opportunity. No previous sailing experience is required. Our experienced sailors will welcome you to the club, get you aboard one of our boats and take you for a sailing experience around Portland Harbour.

Discover Sailing Day is all about having fun, getting out on the water and discovering just how accessible sailing can be. It is also a great opportunity to meet our club members, explore the Portland Yacht Club and find out about the different ways you can become involved in sailing.

What do I need?

We will supply the boats and all required safety equipment. Just come dressed ready to be active and spend some time outdoors and around the water.

We recommend wearing comfortable activewear, warm clothing and non-slip enclosed shoes. Bring a hat, sunscreen and water bottle, and having a change of clothes with you is also a good idea.

Participants should be confident and comfortable around the water.

This is the perfect 'taster' for anyone who wants to discover sailing for the first time. This is the perfect introduction and can be the ideal way for you to begin your sailing journey, without having to commit to a full training course.

Course Outcome

Following the course, you will receive a completion certificate.

We recognise that some of our course participants are completing the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award and may be using sailing and/or club membership to complete one or more sections of The Award. To learn more, click here.
